NAMIC and Motorola Partner to Create New Digital Video Network 'Diversity Live'
NEW YORK, May 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC) today announced the launch of its new streaming media website DiversityLive: The NAMIC Video Network. Presented in partnership with Motorola through a grant extended to NAMIC by The Motorola Foundation, the new diversity video community was developed exclusively to serve as an online destination for NAMIC members. As part of the DiversityLive launch campaign, NAMIC's nationwide chapters and members have the opportunity to win cash and prizes by entering the first-ever NAMIC Diversity And Technology Video Competition, sponsored by Motorola.

)
"As a leading organization focused on multi-ethnic diversity in the communications industry, the establishment of this digital video network represents a new measure of service to our members and the communications industry at-large," said Kathy Johnson, president, NAMIC. "NAMIC is proud to partner with Motorola, a technology leader that shares in our commitment to keeping diversity at the forefront of the digital culture."
DiversityLive: The NAMIC Video Network will showcase user-generated content and feature professional networking, the latest diversity news, blogs, educational webinars, information on careers in technology and more. As the companion micro-site accessed through NAMIC.com, DiversityLive will be highlighted by an evolving digital platform including videos and stimulating discussion forums contributed by NAMIC members -- professionals who are among the most media savvy in the communications industry. In conjunction with the DiversityLive launch, an all new look for NAMIC.com is being unveiled. The enhanced website features include: new homepage design; member testimonials; research section including multi-ethnic demographics and resource links; archived NAMIC newsletters (Diversity Scoop, InTouch, CulturalLens); and more.
The NAMIC Diversity And Technology Video Competition commenced on May 1, 2008 and will run through August 31, 2008 at 11:59 p.m. ET. This national competition is open to NAMIC's roster of 17 chapters. Members establishing a registered profile on DiversityLive are eligible to submit original videos into the competition. Video entries related to diversity or emerging technologies in the communications industry will vie for top honors recognizing selected Chapters and individual members. With a goal of illustrating the intersection of technology and diversity, and exemplifying the NAMIC mission to educate, advocate and empower for multi-ethnic diversity in the communications industry, video entries may embody any of the following:
* depiction of an event
* original creative content
* music video
* demonstration of how new technologies strengthen diversity
* use of technologies to connect with diverse communities
* any theme that makes a powerful statement in support of the NAMIC
mission
Video entries will be judged by NAMIC's membership base, comprising 2,000 professionals. The Chapter whose video entry is selected for first place honors will receive a $1,500 award to be utilized towards the staging of a technology event. Second place and third place winners will be awarded cash contributions in the amount of $1,000 and $500 respectively. Individual members contributing winning video entries on behalf of their Chapters will receive luxury Motorola Gift Packs. Complete details on the competition including contest rules and eligibility requirements are available by visiting NAMIC.com and accessing DiversityLive. Winners will be announced at the 22nd Annual NAMIC Conference, scheduled for September 14-16, 2008 at the New York Marriott Marquis.
"Diversity and the effective use of technology to educate are two themes that we vigorously advocate," said Eileen Sweeney, director of the Motorola Foundation. "We are proud to partner with NAMIC to create the diversity video network, which allows Motorola to continue its mission of fostering education, diversity and growth in communities where we work."
In support of DiversityLive, NAMIC will assemble a team of Technology Champions. This group of executives from across the broad spectrum of the communications field will serve as mentors and guides to the 17 NAMIC Chapters to facilitate the effective integration of new technologies with advocacy for diversity and inclusion in the professional ranks, the consumer base, and, equally important, creative content.
NAMIC Technology Champions will provide the following:
* forward-looking leadership
* project consultation
* enhanced media literacy
* insights into the state-of-the-industry
* advice on creative use of new technologies to promote sustained growth
and learning
* innovative approaches to exploring the potential of new technologies to
strengthen existing cultural ties while building bridges across
persisting cultural divides
