George Schmitt Joins xG Technology Advisory Board By Divya Narain
Sarasota, Fla.-based provider of smart radio technology xG Technology, Inc. has announced that cellular industry veteran George Schmitt has joined its Advisory Board.

Schmitt boasts more than 40 years of rich telecom experience in wireless and wireline companies. He is already on the boards of Calient, Ready Jet Go Airlines, and Teleworx. He is a Managing Director & SBIC Director at TeleSoft Partners, a Silicon Valley-based venture capital firm specializing in early stage, mid stage, late stage, and growth capital. Schmitt's wide industry experience spans companies like e.spire Communications, Omnipoint, LHS Group, Objective Systems Integrators, PCS PrimeCo, AirTouch Communications, Mannesmann Mobilfunk (Germany), Pacific Telesis, Pacific Telephone, and AT&T (News - Alert). Most recently, Schmitt was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of e.spire Communications, a provider of voice, data and Internet services to markets throughout the U.S. Before that, Schmitt was President and a Director at Omnipoint Communication Services until VoiceStream's acquisition of Omnipoint Corporation in 2000. He has also served as a Director of two telecom software companies: LHS Group and Objective Systems Integrators. Prior to joining Omnipoint, Schmitt was President and Chief Executive Officer of PCS PrimeCo (now part of Verizon (News - Alert)Wireless). He came to PrimeCo from AirTouch, where he was Executive Vice President of International Operations. He has also served as the Chairman of the GSM Association, an international organization promoting and monitoring the implementation of GSM wireless technology. Schmitt received an M.S. in Management from Stanford University, where he was a Sloan Fellow, and a B.A. in Political Science from Saint Mary’s College. xG Technology (News - Alert), Inc. specializes in communications technologies which offer the potential to significantly reduce the required capital investment and operating costs of wireless and wired voice and data communications services.
